I don’t really want a quotations page (it’s a bit Facebook) but I like a lot things other people say… they tend to rant less than me, and be cleverer… so until I can think of a way of incorporating these wonderful, inspirational nuggets of wisdom smoothly and cleanly into the blog layout, a quotations page there shall be.

“Environmentalists have often been guilty of presenting people with a mental image of the world’s least desirable holiday destination – some seedy bed and breakfast near Torquay, with nylon sheets, cold tea and soggy toast – and expecting them to get excited about the prospect of NOT going there. The logic and the psychology are all wrong.”

Rob Hopkins, Transition Handbook

Food is that rare moral arena in which the ethical choice is generally the one more likely to make you groan with pleasure.

Barbara Kingsolver, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

A gastronome who is not also an environmentalist is an idiot. An environmentalist who is not also a gastronome is, well, sad.

Carlo Petrini

I am, of course, firmly opposed to consumerism and corporatism in all its forms, and I believe that we are deeply confused about material needs and wants. Now let me explain how books and yarn are totally different than the material things that other people want ;-)….

Modern agriculture is essentiall a complex way of eating oil.

One of my favorites is actually a line from a Bob Dylan song, as apposed to a quote, but it’s………

    ” The sun ain’t yellow, it’s chicken”

I like it because tending to the chickens on a small hold would be an ideal start to the day. I don’t have any now, alas, my neighbours would go mental, but I used to just love collecting the eggs for breakfast as a child and as a grown up visiting my dad’s place. No one in the family has their own chickens now. What a shame.
By the way, your sock knitting mission sounds good too.
